Intel atom vs i3

i3 can have 2 threads per core = 4 threads and have a better architecture and main frequency and support better hardware. Atom can have a single core or dual core with only one thread per core and it is used mostly in netbooks, tablets and some upcoming smartphones.

Depends entirely on your USE:

HTPC = i3 ; (maybe Atom low power use and low noise can be fan-less)
Windows Server = Atom
General PC = i3
