Intel Board DH61WW RAM Limit

So the product specifications says that it supports 16 GB RAM. It has two DIMM slots only. I already have 2x4GB RAM installed and I am thinking to upgrade/replace them. But Intel's site says. It supports 1,2 & 4 GB only. How is that possible? Then what is the use of 16 GB when we can maximum add 8GB. What am I getting wrong here as I don't think Intel is stupid.

I don't know what am I getting wrong here. I have my info attached and some links to help anyone who has some answers.

So it would seem that it will support 2x8GB sticks of memory for a total of 16GB.

The initial bios supported 8gb max but if you install the latest bios updates, it'll support 16gb.

So it would seem that it will support 2x8GB sticks of memory for a total of 16GB.

But it says that it only supports 4GB Stick and there are only two slots. 2x4= 8 GB Max. It doesn't says that it won't support 2 X 8 GB stick but it also doesn't say that it could.

The initial bios supported 8gb max but if you install the latest bios updates, it'll support 16gb.

I have installed the Bios Update already.

It says this at there site:

What do the mean by 4 GB technology? I think it means 4 GB Stick of Ram.

I studies about the matter a bit and it indeed is confusing, you got 2 slots in first place and site says it can support 4 gb per slot max, then yes it's a valid question how come it'll support 16gb when 2X8gb isn't supported.

Well I read some revisions to the manual it says 16gb is the max addressable memory and as far as I know, if system supports 16gb addressable, then it should support 8gb modules. Don't quote me on that though,

This's pure theory and applies to all new boards, but I'm short of first hand experience on this one.

And once again, the board has 2 individual slots right? And we're talking about a single pair of installable dimm and not 2 such pairs. From the specs on Intel it says 2 slots.

The same thing has got me confused. I have tried Google and already read reviews, guides, threads but I couldn't clarify if this board supports a 8 GB or not. And I don't want to experiment on my board by adding 8 GB and risking other peripherals. If I don't find a solid answer here, I'll try and email their support.

INtel states that yes, 8GB sticks are usable...would suggest making sure you have the latest BIOS as Intel made this assertion based on the capabilities of the 1155 CPUs and the H61 chipset, they don't show any 8GB sticks in their testing list (prob as there were few available at the release and Intel doesn't generally test a lot of DRAM on their mobos (or at least they didn't))

I am thinking to get this, they will be compatible or not?
