Question Intel C2D E8400 DDR ?

i have a Intel C2D E8400 and i want to add moar ram, i have a DDR2 board, and i want to replace board and ram, so i can have more slots. is the processor compatible with DDR3? (ddr4 is impossible, but maybe ddr3)

There are boards that'll run an E8400 with DDR3 - DDR3 came out near the end of the E8400's lifespan, so there's some crossover.

That being said though, the investment in a new motherboard + DDR3 seems a waste if you're pairing with an E8400.


Considering a modern platform with DDR4 should be <$200, it's tough to justify investing a whole lot in such a dated platform.
