Hello everyone,..
I just won a auction for a Intel CPU,..I also just noticed that it is a Engineering Sample,..there was no mention of that in the description but on the actual product photo it has Intel Confidential written on it,..
I haven't paid yet and I was wondering if I should avoid this like the plague,..Is it even legal and is the CPU flawed in any way ??

Just need some opinions,..
the price was great for a Ivy Bridge Quad,..

Thanks !!

Solution
Technically, no it's not legal because Intel claims ownership of all their engineering samples. The CPU itself may be the same as a retail chip or may differ in some way. Quite often ES chips are not multiplier locked or have more features enabled than regular chips. For example a chip that is similar to an i5 but with hyper-threading enabled.

I've seen a lot of them on eBay lately, I think contractors are stealing chips Intel sends out to be destroyed.

Well I'm hoping that a white van doesn't pull into my driveway and a couple of guys in black suits get out of it,..
my choices:
1. Pay for it,slap in a tower and run CPU-Z and see what it's made of and if all looks good keep my mouth shut.I don't overclock,.
2.Contact the seller and cancel the sale,.and keep my mouth shut
3.Cancel the sale,and notify Intel and E-Bay,..

I should have seen the red flag when the bidding was so low on it,..
my winning bid was dirt cheap,..

Yeah right, Intel doesn't have enough things to do to go after 1 guy. Wouldn't it be quicker to go directly to eBay and tell them, "hey yo, do you know your seller blah-blah is selling....?"

Now if this was an Engineering sample for a 6th Gen Processor, Whooo-Hoooo!

It's just a higher end I5 Ivy Bridge,..but it could have some capabilities that others don't have,.and I was just kidding around about the guys in white suits,..
I'm really tempted to just pay for it and take the risk,..I paid less the a third for what a boxed one goes for,..but a side of me say that that's not the right thing to do,but the other side says what if it has the capabilities of a I7 and runs like a raped ape,.

What to do,what to do,..
