I really need to figure out what MB's are compatible with this CPU that don't cost £30+. I simply cannot for the life of me find coherent information, as one site claims its compatible with this board then that boards actual site says it isn't.
Any help?

Solution
something like this :

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P5NE_SLI/

or this:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5Q_Deluxe/

keep in mind second hand on ebay, the P5Q Deluxe is about 100 bucks, and the P5NE-sli is as expensive.

You will not find something that cheap (30) which will take that CPU, it has a 1333 FSB which was often not supported on lower end models.

QX6850 needs LGA 775 socket. I believe it is first gen qual core on 775 socket that max out at 130W. 2nd gen qual core is QX93xx to QX9770 that max out at 95W. Once you find the 775 mobo, you need to go to manufacturer website and see whether it will support it and what bios version is required to run it.

Not sure if you can find a large variety of new compatible motherboards for that CPU but you can check boards here:

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_2_Extreme/QX6850_motherboards.html

Or here:

http://www.pc-specs.com/cpu/Intel/Core_2_Extreme/Core_2_Extreme_QX6850_3.0GHz/278/Compatible_Motherboards

If you have a special boards in mind from a certain brand you can check with the manufacturer's website for CPU support.

I think you need to look for used or possible new ones on eBay.

Found these two on newegg. Check if they're compatible on the AsRock website too. Although one is £38 and one is £49.
