Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 vs Intel Xeon E5520 .. HELP! :(

Hi all,

I'm a DotNet (software) developer and I'm confused. I just got a super-duper-high-speed-PC, but it's slower than my old-old-PC.

For example I made a simple program that counts from 0 to 5,000,000,000 ... it takes my old computer 19 secs and my new 24 secs 🙁

I'm a CPU noob, so my question is ... can it really be true that my new CPU is that more slow than my old CPU?

They basically have the same architecture and you wrote a single-threaded program. The results are to be expected. On the other hand, the new system will run 4 threads a lot faster than your old one.
