Intel core 2 q6700 vs intel xeon x3230

I've been doing research on these cpus and the seem to be my option for my upgrade for my small form factor computer which of these would be best I have heard that xeons are for servers but also heard it also works in desktops I do know for a fact the the core 2 q6700 is compatable with my motherboard. and I want to know which will perform better on games

They will perform the same. Same number of cores, same cache, same supported FSB speeds. Only difference is that the Q6700 is a 105W cpu and the X3230 is a 95W cpu at least according to Intel's Ark.

There isnt alot a room for fans in this smallcomputer and I heard xeons can take more heat \not get as hot as the core 2 quads is this true?

Well .. considering it's a lower wattage CPU, then yes, it will put out less heat. They both have nearly the same max temperature before throttling.

They are close enough that if you already have one of them, it's not worth buying the other.
