i have an ASUS P5Q Pro and an Antec kuhler H2O 650. I ve oc my q6600 to 3.0ghz, FSB 333 and Vcore 1.35000 but my tems are so high;
idle:
core0:51 C
core1:50 C
core2:46 C
core3:43 C
load:
core0:97 C
core1:97 C
core2:87 C
core3:86 C

i installed the watercooler yesterday and i bought it new, with the thermal compound was preinstalled on the coldplate.
what should be the temps oc on that water cooler?
p.s i am overclocking because i have bought a gtx660 ti and i heard it will be an overkill if not oc.

these temps seems rather abnormal for a watercooled system. this could be a couple of reasons.

1. Your CPU overclock is too high. too much Vcore = too much heat

2. Your mount on the CPU is off. maybe re-fasten the pump block.

Something to remember though.

Every chip is slightly unique, there's a chance you got a poor chip that might be somewhat more power hungry than the golden samples you will often read about online.

The q6600 is also a fairly old chip now, so chip degradation could very much be a factor too.

What should i do to end the overkill , without changing the cpu?
I am planning to buy an i5 4690k and a gtx 970 later this year. For now i just want to fix the overkill.

If you are letting the motherboard AUTO calculate the Vcore, this might be one reason why. I suggest adjusting your cpu Vcore in the bios and seeing if you can achieve a stable overclock with less Vcore. thus reducing the thermal output.

Or just use a smaller overclock.

just run with at stock, or with a lesser overclock. There will always be a bottleneck, I ran a Q9550 (close to a 6600) with a GTX470, for a good while, some slight stuttering in some conditions, once I upgraded the stuttering went away. It's not that bad an issue, in some games the CPU will be the limit, in others it will be the CPU don't fret too much about it, and certainly don't kill your system with heat over it.

i just re assembled the cooler and now i've got 60 C at max in GTA V and 45 C idle.
i have set the vcore to 1.3000v, in core temp it is 1.2750v and runned Intel Burn Test at max. it said that the cpu was stable and the temps were arround 87 C on the first 2 cores and 70C to the last 2 cores.
Thanks for your help!
