Hello,

I was thinking of upgrading my CPU on my XPS 430 to the Q9650 from my Q8200, but I wanted to check whether I would actually notice any difference when gaming or when just generally using the pc. I do know that the Q9650 (12MB) has triple the cache of the Q8200 (4MB) - would that make much of a difference?

Setup:
Motherboard: Dell 0G254H X48 (Socket LGA775)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33 Ghz)
RAM: 8GB DDR3 (800Mhz)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7850 (1GB)

UPDATE: Thanks for all responses, in which case I shall keep my eye out for a new PC...

With Thanks,

Ed

Oh yes, you will notice processing from 2.33Ghz/4mb cache to 3.00 Ghz 12 mb cache, will improve FPS in games and general compute

You always suggest a new pc lol, you do realise that not everybody has cash to spend on a new pc, life has many costs . Some People don't care if their pc is not the latest, they are just not into it that much

A q9650 can be sought for 60-80 dollars here in Australia, so how does $80 buy a new platform

I do realize that, hence why I suggest that they don't waste the money.

The real world difference between the Q8200 and the Q9650 is not really noticeable, especially when the money could be put towards a used 2nd gen i5 platform (or something similar).
