I bought a intel core 2 quad Q9650 the other day and when i installed it i just get a beeping sound and nothing boots. My motherboard is an H IG41 uATX board spec's say it runs intel core 2 quads 95 tdp max 1333 mhz. Which is what the Q9650 is so im stumped. My bios installed is American Megatrends Inc. 6.07, 3/21/2011 could the bios be my problem?

You may need to update your BIOS to the latest version for that board. The Q9650 was one of the latest CPUs released for that platform. I see there is at least a ver. 6.10 for that board. What is the make/model of the PC? Is it a Compaq Presario 5203 Desktop?

If this is your PC, no quad cores are even on the CPU support list. Odd. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c02711666
I'd hop over to the HP forum and ask them. They have reps that frequent the board. One of them my pick up your query. Since the board is a Foxconn, maybe they can point you to a Foxconn BIOS for their version of that board.

1) Maybe the CPU you bought was defective.
2) What is the beep code you are getting?

The beeping comes when i turn on the computer with the q9650 processor installed how to explain it would be like 2 beeps every second, and the computer never boots.I am also asking on hp.com forums still havent found an answer. also i cant find a Foxconn website..

Sorry it take so long for my response but i had to take apart my computer and reinstall the Q9650 again i get 1 short beep then 1 long beep over and over. i see thats a memory error but my computer starts up just fine with same memory chips and my e6500

Have you made any changes in BIOS to your memory settings? Maybe a CMOS reset would allow things to start from default just to cover that base.
You are starting with a different bus speed now. http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare_CPUs/Intel_AT80569PJ080N,Intel_AT80571PH0772ML/
Maybe you need to adjust accordingly in BIOS. I wouldn't expect that to be the case, but it is an older motherboard. Not sure how automatic things were back then.
It may be possible that the Q9650 is a bad CPU. I presume it was bought used.

This CPU was bought NEW from a site i don't wanna say. But it is A high end (reputable) site so i know it might be just be the seller. I bought this CPU understanding that it was a brand new. Intel core 2 Q9650 (2008) never used. What i received was an (2006) Intel Q6950, that didn't make sense to me, when i saw 06'(2006) on the top and said to myself, what is this? The Q9650 was launched 2008. so i look up Intel core 2 Q9650, every site i could find selling it there all 06'... l thought this is fine untill i install my brand new heatsink/fan with a new copper core extreme. and still get an error...1 quick beep the 1 slow beep over and over. So i check, heatsink installed right ok.. doesnt work install 6.07 bios doesnt work, install 6.10 bios hight i can find for the board. comp (HP) still wont work. my memory and im running ddr3 1333mhz G skill.. could it be that??!! i am so confused it's crazy!!

I doubt it is the memory, that should default to whatever speed the processor/memory controller allow. The speed on the memory stick label is just its rated max speed. It will run at whatever the BIOS tells it to run at.
If it won't get recognized after a BIOS reset, I'd take it to a PC shop and ask them to test the processor.

The beeps are a memory error though. The cards I'm running are 1333mhz ddr3 4gb each, so i don't know why I'm getting a memory error. Makes me just wanna buy some new memory chips and test to see if that's the problem. Also the 8bgs of total memory works fine with my current processor Intel Pentium E6500.

The motherboard will only support a maximum of 4GB DDR3. I haven't tried going beyond that. I had this very same issue. I bought some 10666 memory and had an E5800 processor installed. At the time the memory was downclocked to 800mhz, which is what the processor supports. Then I upgraded to a Q9550 95W TDP, I started getting beeps. So I installed the old memory (just one stick of 2gb 10600) and it worked just fine. I'm getting some 10600 memory 4GB ordered now. Hoping I won't get the beeps. I would try going past 4GB but I don't feel like wasting time on returning memory that wasn't compatible. However, if I find that the motherboard CAN support past 4GB memory, i'd totally upgrade.

Necro! When running any CPU with 1066Hz or 1333MHz FSB, this board cannot support modules larger than 2GB. Must be 2Rx8 modules with chips on both sides, not 1Rx8 with chips on one side. It will support 2Rx8 4GB modules up to 8GB total (2 DIMMs) when using a CPU model with 800MHz FSB. Also reports the DIMMs must be DDR3-PC8500 (1066x MHz) not 1333MHz or 1600MHz. This is why people originally running one of the 800MHz FSB CPU models (e.g. E5xxx Pentiums or Dual Core) are having troubles upon upgrading to a quad core, or any other CPU that runs 1066MHz or 1333MHz FSB. You get memory error beep code and no POST.
