Intel Core i3 2100 vs AMD A8-5500B APU - Which CPU should I get?

Yes, another opinion thread. Now I want some opinions on the Core i3 2100.

Some websites put the AMD one on top, others say that the i3 is the best.

I think that the most resource-intensive task that I will do is coding in VS 2017. I also want to install Windows 10 and the latest version of Ubuntu (at the time of writing, it's 18.10 Cosmic).

Keep in mind that both of the systems are refurbished.

Any suggestions?

well simple i3 is better performer if you are going to use a Graphics card.
and amd a8 without graphics card.....

go with i3 with cheap GPU like GT 730,1030,GTX 750Ti. with 6GB / 8GB RAM (For better results)

I have a GeForce 9600 1GB. Bare minimum, I know, but good enough for me? (with the i3 since it performs better with a graphics card, according to what you said)

Yes... Because i3 have better single core performance...
And it is hyperthreaded..

The i3 will be significantly faster for general use and VS 2017 coding due to its higher single core performance. You might be actually surprised at how good 2C/4T still are in general use, and Sandy cores are still quite fast today. You'll be in a ballpark of 2016 flagship ultrabook CPU performance.

The 9600GT GPU is surely old, but better than the GPU in the A8 and the i3-2100 integrated GPU. It might as well be perfectly good enough if you don't game, as it won't have much to do anyway. It's a win-win.

Yes but also later you can upgrade your GPU
