Hello guys , today I upgraded from a g3260 to a I3-4170 ,but when i boot in to Windows programs such as Core temp or CPU-Z show that I have 1 core and 2 threads , im really panicked

Motherboard : Asus H81m-k
ram: 8gb ddr3 1600mhz

Could it be because the MB is having an older BIOS ? If so will updating the BIOS help me ,
Thanks in particular.

You can also try something within Windows:

Start --> Run --> msconfig --> enter

Go to boot --> advanced

Here, you can change the number of CPUs your OS is using. If you uncheck the option, it will use all available resources.

Sometimes this option is preselected at 1 core, so make sure it is not.

EDIT: st3v30 beat me to it, the video he posted is precisely what I meant.

Unfortunately it didn't help

It's not the bios that not recognising the cpu, it's the os as it was previously configured with the G3260.
Also if the bios was running with the G3260, it will run with an i3 4170 since they both are supported since bios version 1003. The fact the op can boot into windows means it's not the bios version issue.

What do you see in Device Manager, Processors? If you still see the old CPU, then uninstall all processors and reboot the system.
