I feel Intel basically cannibalized their own product with ADL. In other words, Rocket Lake died a premature death with the release of a significantly better Alder Lake on 10nm. Without selling it cheap, I don't think anybody will buy the end of the road LGA1200 motherboard with a Rocket Lake processor.

Releasing ADL was not the wrong decision. Releasing Rocket Lake at all was the wrong decision!! They should have just canceled that release... or just made it a Comet Lake refresh for the i5 and i7. The Rocket Lake i9 was a joke.

It would be nicer to see the 12600K near that price as well! :)

(We can hope!)
In that case 5800X would need to be sub $200 since it has slightly worse multi threaded performance and significantly worse single threaded performance compared to 12600K and 12600KF.

Intel spent 2 years developing Rocket Lake. They had no idea how good the 5000 series from AMD would be when RL development started in early 2019 when AMD hadn't even released the 3000 series yet. Intel wasn't about to eat that development cost once it became apparent what AMD had to offer.
