Intel core i5 2400 or Amd phenom 2 x4 965

Initially my build was to be this:

AMD Phenom II X4 965
Asus M5A97
XFX HD6850
G.Skill 2 x4GB 1333(PC3 10666) Ram
Corsair GS600w

but today i saw Fry's ad and they have the Intel core i5 2400 on sale for 139.99 originally 189.99 even on newegg. So question is should i change my build to the i5 2400 or keep my initial build?

AMD 965= 129.99 (newegg)
i5 2400= 139.99 (Frys)

If you recommend the i5 please provide a good motherboard around $120 please.


Almost forgot heres what i plan to do with my computer:

Multitask
Internet, youtube, facebook, IGN
Games: Crysis, Counter strike, Star wars old republic, skyrim, GTA 4, MW3, Battlefield 3
Applications: Photoshop, Microsoft office, Vegas Movie studio HD, Indesign, Illustrator

Typically a everyday use computer for almost a little of everything.

I'm not sure of a motherboard. Probably something H67 since you can't overclock. $120 is a bit much for the motherboard.

choice would be the i5 2400 + z68 just for the extras the chipset provides above the H & P chipsets, leaves lots of room for future expansion & upgrades

the i5 2400 is capable of matching first generation i7's such as the 920, it is generations ahead of the 965. As for the motherboard look for a sub $120 z68 motherboard however if you do not intend to do any overclocking then a h67 motherboard should be fine

The Intel® Core™ i5-2400 is an outstanding processor that you are going to love. While the Intel Core i5-2500K is a better gaming processor, the price you have gotten on the Intel Core i5-2400 makes it a great deal.

I personally like the extra features that the Z68 chipset offers over the H67 but for a general propose board the H67 will work well.

You need mo' bettah RAMs ... G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866: $60 with Code EMCKBHD32

Throw in the AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz // Asus M5A99X EVO AM3+ AMD 990X combo and all you are missing is a Cooler Master HSF.

Much better connectivity and VRM than the M5A97.

newegg funtime then H67 chipset mobo's are cheap, but lack some of the features of the p67 & z68 mobos. if you're just gonna be sticking with that cpu & a single gpu for the entire life of the mobo & don't need any of the extras the more expensive chipsets provide, then h67 is prolly the way to go. p67 are decent value too, but considering z68 are pretty much the same price now, i'd just go straight for z68.

Looking for a good motherboard not too cheap not too expensive. I'm considering dual gpu but im not too sure. Would like something that will last and is a good product all around, so technically not that cheap. Anyone? I think the Z68 chipset is what im looking into...what are some good brands?

Its always better with INTEL INSIDE...
