At my local second hand shop there is an i5 4430 going for £90. Second hand. Boxed.

The cheapest i3 4170 i can find online is £93.

Is it worth the risk?
Will i really see much performance gain from 4 cores in comparison with 2 hyper threaded cores?

Solution
If you trust your local second hand shop yeah sure.
This i5-4670k will give you at least 15% performance gain. And you can eventually overclock for maybe 50% performance gain w/ the right motherboard/cpu cooler so its maybe worth for £40 more. You should consider it too.
But you could get a even better i5 4690K for £185 @amazon.uk so yeah i think you should go the cheaper i5 4430 for £90. Good deal.

My part list atm (not all purchased yet)

i3 4170
Gtx 950 OC

any videos on youtube that have the same Cpu+gpu have got ultra settings at 1080p. This is why i'm 'ummng' at the situation. They also have an i5-4670k for £130.

Money enough i5 for sure.
i3-4170 is indeed a great budget gaming cpu.
New AAA games you will see good FPS because HT is amazing for games. Really is. Unbelievable but truth.
But i3 will be 100% cpu use all time while HT is doing the crazy work to keep those 4 threads going on.
i5 has 4 true cores. i5 will do things that i3 cannot: it will be reliable w/ 3-4 intense threaded games. This is worth the price tag.

So it's better. Even used?
