Intel core i5 4670k vs. intel core i7 4770k

Does it worth the money to get i7 4770k?

for rendering, editing and other CPU intensive tasks? yes, if you can afford it, though the i5 isn't a bad fallback choice.

for gaming at most? no. not unless you just wanna brag about it.

for casual tasks? way overkill.

alternatively, there's the FX-8320 or FX-6300 for the budget minded.

How about intel xeon 1230 v3?

That's and i7 ( just without the integrated graphics card that you will never use )
And it supports the 8 threads at a 100$ lower cost than 4770k

For gaming i5 would the the best for it's price, but in the future games will use more cores so more thread*/core CPU's would be better for it

If money is no problem for you I'd go with the i7 4770k. But the i5 4670k is also an excellent processor which is more then enough for gaming.

If you have leftover money, you can use the leftover money for the 4770k.

If you need the 8 threads from 4770(k), but you dont have any money leftover go for a xeon processor.

If you dont need the extra threads from 4770(k), and you don't have any money leftover go for a 4670k

If you don't need the extra threads from 4770(k), and you dont have any money leftover, or are over budget, and don't want to overclock go for a i5-4440, 4570 or 4670.

Hi, The K at the end of a processor name stands for UNLOCKED, Unlocked processors can be oced for example 4770K and 4670K can be overclocked but the 4770 and 4670 are locked so cannot.

As the others posted above in terms of general gaming you will not see an increase from I5 4670K to I7 4770K that justifies the price difference.

I feel the XEON 1230 V3 is very good for this area of competition because as posted it has the hyperthreading power of the i7 without integrated graphics but for general gaming an i5 4670K is perfectly good.

You can overclock 4770k, you can't 4770, that will just stay the same at 3.5 GHz ( no other difference )
