Intel Core i5-4690K (Devil's Canyon) and the Gigabyte G1. Sniper M5

Hi there,

Later this month Intel are releasing their new Devil's Canyon CPUs. I plan on using the i5-4690k for my new mATX build with the Gigabyte G1. Sniper M5 Motherboard (z87 chipset). I did a bit of research and found this article. According to the article not all z87 motherboards will work with the new Devil's Canyon i5 CPUs as a BIOS/UEFI update will be required before the new CPUs will work. I was wondering if anybody knew anything more about this? (Specially anything Gigabyte have said on the matter).

Go to gigabytes site and look up the CPU support list and available BIOS just like you should always do. No one but Gigabyte can tell you when/if it will be supported

For the 4690k you NEED a z97 series chipset motherboard, a z87 won't do.

They don't have the new CPUs listed yet, I'll contact them and see what they say.

For the 4690k you NEED a z97 series chipset motherboard, a z87 won't do.

Some Z87's have BIOS updates that allow for the new Devil's Canyon chips.
