I need to know if the Corsair Hydro H55 is compatible with the i5 6500. Also can anyone help me by explaining what's the difference between a socket LGA 1150 and 1151.

Solution
for cooler, no difference at all
if a cooler is compatible for anyone one of 115X socket, it's ok for all 115x (1156,1155,1150,1151).
However, a cooler can be restricted by PC case. So make sure your case can support specific cooler.

Solution
Compatible, yes.
But totally useless.
I5-6500 comes with a perfectly adequate cooler.

LGA1150 motherboards are used with older 4th gen processors like I5-4400.
Lga1151 motherboards are needed for current skylake processors like the i5-6500 and upcoming kaby lake processors.
