Intel Core i5 6500 or RYZEN 5 1600

I'm upgrading from a Skylake i3 6100
Would it be better to get RYZEN 5 or upgrade to a Skylake i5 6500?

Honestly, I don't really see much point in upgrading from a skylake to another skylake. I guess you do need to update the bios, if you are on an older 1151 board.


The upgrade really depends solely on what you use your PC for. If you want to video edit, or photo edit regularly, while still playing games, you'll like the Ryzen. If you're a gamer, and just a gamer, nothing else, intel is your best bet. Intels chips have great single threaded performance, which is the best for games. Not saying Ryzen has bad single threaded performance, but Intel specializes in that.

Upgrading to an i5 would only cost you the price of a CPU.

You could go up to an i7 even.

I will be streaming a lot and gaming @ 1080p.

It costs the same but I do a lot of rendering and streaming so I think the RYZEN 5 1600 has a slight advantage over multi core processing.
Also the Skylake Architecture is already outdated and the LGA 1151 Platform might soon become outdated , the AMD AM4 and RYZEN Platform is a 4 YEAR architecture.

i have askylake i5 6400...if it is any indication...go with the ryzen. lol
