Intel Core i7 4770 vs amd fx-9590

Hi there,

As I'm thinking about building up a new machine I'm unsure which of these processors might fit me better.
The main purpose of the machine will be gaming but since I'm working in science I'll might also use it sometimes to process some larger data files at home, where multiple threads will be an advantage. I'm also not quite sure what to think of intels hyper-threading thingy, do you think it makes up for the missing cores - in SMP supported applications?

Just go for an Intel Xeon E3-1230v3

That processor, like the i7-4770K, is hyperthreaded, and will make up for a lot of not having 8 cores. It uses about a third the power (probably savings of $10-50 a year), is faster at single threaded applications, and really isn't far back at all in multithreaded apps like your processing. It even costs less:
