News Intel Core Ultra 9 285K performance sees 6% improvement on Linux — Arrow Lake boosts even without new '200S Boost' BIOS

Phoronix' benchmarks often warrant a bit of scrutiny, since there are sometimes significant details lurking within.

In this case, some of the biggest improvements were the iGPU gaming tests. While those weren't great in number, I'm sure they had a significant impact on the final geomean.

BTW, another thing Intel's been tweaking is the P-state driver, which is the software component responsible for managing the clock frequencies of the various cores. That's likely what's responsible for most of the improvements in performance on all-core tasks.

At the end of the article, there's a graph showing which benchmarks gained/lost the most. Yes, there are some regressions.

Well this boost doesn't do anything to make it worth buying.

Intel needs to drop the price on it by at least 40% for to even consider it. I'm an Intel guy too.

The 7800x3d beats it in gaming. That's old now.

Intel made a huge mistake by not releasing a 16 pcore only CPU. That could have sold for $700 and competed with the 9800x3d.

What a dope miss.

Wrong, it would NOT have sold for 700 at all. It being all P core wouldn't do too much for it in gaming. Alot of games love clockspeed, yea, but you need massive amounts of cache to really keep it up against an X3D part unless you're sporting very fast RAM like 7200Mhz.

Arrow Lake in general is "slow" because its their first step in a new direction. A 16 "P-core' would still be slow.

Zen didn't become any good until Ryzen 5000. The 2800/2800X in the consoles have aged horribly as well.
