So i have a Hp Prodesk 600 G1 (the small form factor with the Intel Core i5 4590) and am thinking about salvaging it for parts. Mainly the processor. I don't have much experience in removing CPU's so I'm Asking for help
Take the cooler off (may need a bit of twisting to unstick the thermal paste
Then release the lever next to the CPU, and it will come loose.
Be very careful of static electricity and damaging the pins. Ideally, don't touch the pins at all.

I would recommend, before performing the above steps, turn the computer on and let it warm up a bit. This will help in loosening the thermal paste between the CPU and the heat sink. Just let the system run for 5 to 10 minutes, then shut the system down and perform the above steps.

thanks for the info! Although i dont have a plastic protective cover, would it be fine if i were to wipe off the thermal paste and lay it down with the pins facing up?

the i5 dosnt have pins the mobo does. you might have to twist the heatsink a bit to get it of the cpu.

well i meant the small gold plates on the bottom part of the processor.
