quick noob question, which way do you turn the black plastic thumb screws for installation? and once turned do you just push it into the mobo?

You just press in and it locks, you turn it to unmount them via screwdriver.

No i meant once they're mounted you unmount them with the screwdriver that is why the black thumbs move around and turn. You simply just press the thumbs in the socket you dont turn them or anything.
