Intel different socket types

Hi, I'm trying to build a pc for a friend and I found a really cheap i3 2120 but I don't know if the socket is compatible with the motherboard I bought. They're both intel but one is LGA1151 and the other LGA1155. Will it not work at all or will it just have slightly worse performance?

According to Intel web site: https://ark.intel.com/products/53426/Intel-Core-i3-2120-Processor-3M-Cache-3_30-GHz
the I3-2120 is an LGA1155 socket type., match that to a LGA1155 motherboard and you should be fine.

if you have a LGA1150 motherboard on hand then goto this web site : http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/index.html enter the make/mode of motherboard in search engine and you will get a listing of compatible cpus to help you find a matching one for it.

1151 CPU's go with 1151 motherboards. Same with any, socket types have to be exactly the same. CPU coolers are a different story. But socket types for CPU and Motherboards should always be exactly the same
