I was looking around today and found this article on inquirer: <A HREF="http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=18021" target="_new">http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=18021</A>. Have look at the intel prices here: <A HREF="http://www.intel.com/intel/finance/pricelist/" target="_new">http://www.intel.com/intel/finance/pricelist/</A>.

Intel really droped some of the prices alot (expect EE cpus of course!). The 560 (1M L2 cache 3.60 GHz 800 MHz FSB 90nm) is now at $417, lower that 3800 and 3700 A64. Seems like they probably feeling threated by A64 performance and lower prices, so they finally cut prices! However, I think you could probably still build cheaper and faster A64 system. Anyhow, it would be nice for us, consumers, if AMD also droped thier price now :)

Is that chip even available yet. Where does a system builder buy one?

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

if you look on pricewatch, youll see a couple places do seem to have it for purchase.

on a kind of side note, i saw the first computer comercials where gigahertz wasnt mentioned once! I belive it was a dell commercial and it only mentioend the model, the p4 520. boy poor consumers lol, being tried to look for gigahertz now thrust into unkown waters. I can already see the confusion, i heard comments about that commercial like, 'So how fast is it?' 'What is the gigahertz?'.

In case you forgot, AMD dropped thier prices on the 17th. Intel is playing catchup again.
Unfortunatly AMD does not have the capacity to keep up with the demand that another price drop would create. Oh well, a higher profit margin is a good boost for them right now.
If they see good yields with strained silicon on 90 nanos, we may see another price drop.

If you carefully check, many don't have it in stock or are taking pre-order for it.

Intel is now the PAPER-LAUNCH KING!

oh i know amd already had a price cut, im sure youve heard the rumors about another drop form amd. its possible they might tweak some of the higher end pricing and not touch say anything in the s754 socket except for the 3700+. but also, with the upcoming lower end s939 chips, that could be in place of a price cut, by giving users more choices on s939.

i was just saying its possilbe amd coudl tweak its prices again.

as far as the 3.6 p4 goes, yeah all that i see is pre order so it is a paper luanch. its strange that if you look on alienware's site you see it mention 4ghz p4ee's lol, i dont see how that would happen this year for sure.
