Hello,

I have old Intel DP45SG motherboard and Intel Q6600 cpu with -
BIOS Version/Date Intel Corp. SGP4510H.86A.0083.2008.0819.1026,
Date: 8/19/2008
with 2GB DDR3 1066 Mhz ram.

I want to upgrade to 4 Gb ram, but 2 Gb DDR3 1066Mhz ram is just not available so I have to buy 2 Gb 1333 Mhz ram.

I have a few questions regarding this.

Q1. I have never updated the bios of this board because there was never any need. Now I have gone through intel online manual to see if I need a bios update to put more ram, but I could not figure it out. Please help me to figure it out.

Q2. From the manual, I understand that because this is an old motherboard, It wont support 1066 Mhz and 1333 Mhz ram chips at the same time .. so can 1333 Mhz chip be set to 1066 Mhz on this board?

Q3. If its just not possible to mix 1066 Mhz with 1333 Mhz , then I will have to buy new 4Gb 1333 Mhz ram .. but does bios update has anything to do with it?

thanks a loads.

Aha, I found this.. I think this is relevant. ... http://downloadmirror.intel.com/18636/eng/SG_0125_ReleaseNotes.pdf ..

It did not work .. I borrowed my friend's 2 Gb DDR3 1333 Mhz ram stick x 2 .. tested each one, motherboard gives 3 beeps .. when I put my old ram 2 Gb DDR3 1066 Mhz ram, it works fine .. so I am not sure if 1333 Mhz stick needs bios update or such .. could you please help me with that? thanks man.

but.... i cant find anything specific to ram or bios update being needed for 1333mhz ram or any such documentation in bios update pdf above. plz help. tx.

If you still haven't figured anything out there are only certain kinds of ram that are compatible with the board. I have 8GB (4x2GB) installed in this board and it was a pain to try to find ram that worked. So far the only ram that works is 2GB max (I knew this much) single stick capacity and there has to be 16 chips total (8 on each side) on the stick, so a max of 128MB per chip. My ram is 1333mhz and yes you can underclock them to 1066, I know this because I had to do that to overclock my CPU which in turn overclocks the ram.

Also, I'm on the latest BIOS version from 1/21/2010 and if I were you I would just update it.
