Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260 Problem

I bought this PCIe card to use in my Windows 7 64-bit computer in order to connect to my Wireless ac router (Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac). The computer will connect just fine to my network, but only as a 802.11 N client.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it connect 802.11ac. I have the latest drivers from the Intel support site installed and have tried the Intel Proset software as well as the Windows 7 networking.

When using the Windows 7 advanced wireless adapter configuration, all 802.11 a, b, g, b&g and so on are offered as options but not ac.

Any suggestions?

Try setting up the router as ac only and then when you connect, it can only connect as ac.

I'll try that to see if it works. It would be a temporary solution, however, since most of the clients in the house that connect to the router are b/g/n.

See if you can set up the 5GHz as ac and the 2.4GHz as N in the router.

Yes, I solved it by returning the PCI wireless adapter and buying a 802.11ac USB 3.0 adapter. The driver software will allow you to specify its using the 802.11ac radio. With the PCI adapter, this was not the case - wireless ac was not even a choice. Here's what I got and it works perfectly:

Edimax Wireless AC1200 Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter (EW-7822UAC), which I purchased from Amazon.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. I am not quite ready to give up on the AC 7260 just yet so I will continue to search. I feel like there is just one piece of the puzzle missing, but even after 30+ years of PC use, I am still woefully ignorant regarding networking and wireless in particular.
