Intel Expansion Options for pci express from cpu to gpu

I was looking at my specs, I have mobos that have 16x pcie same with a video cards .


4770k Expansion Options

PCI Express Revision 3.0
PCI Express Configurations ‡ Up to 1x16, 2x8, 1x8/2x4
Max # of PCI Express Lanes 16

This processor has pci express 4x4
Intel® Xeon® Processor X5450
(12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

When I was looking at xeon processors and some other old ones it does not have specs for the Expansion Options how do I know the cpu can do the full 16x speeds and would the X5450 just run 4x speed even if it was on a 16x mobo and how can I see those specs if not listed for I can tell if the process can do 4x or 8x or 16x at 1.0 or 2.0 or 3.0 revision.

So this only has 16 lanes for the gpu and if you run 2 cards they will only have x8 lanes from the cpu to the gpus

This has 40 lanes so you could run two 16x lanes from the cpu to the gpu and another gpu at 8x

Oh right, yes thats correct. I didnt know exactly what you were asking.

The Socket 2011 i7s also have 40 lanes, like the 4930k 3830k etc
