intel G2030 help

Is the pentium a good performer for the price in all games or will I be let down because I want to max out games with my 6870.

For the price, it's a great processor and it cannot be doubted. However "your mileage may vary" depending on the games you play; certain games will require higher specifications, whereas the Intel Pentium (G2030) is only a dual-core with no Hyper-Threading (HT, i.e. virtual cores.) Games are now beginning to utilise more cores and threads, so an i3 is often recommended, as they have 2 cores and 4 threads, as a result of HT. With more threads, your OS will see it as more cores.

Regardless, you should still be able to load and play most games without issues IMO (again depending on the game.) Tie this in with a decent graphics card, and I believe you should be good to go. Personally however, I don't expertise in GPU's so I can't assist much there, apologies.

Any idea of how much better the G3220 is compared to the G2030 cause I read that the G3220 is a good performer in todays games and I was quite suprised.

If you read that the G3220 is a "good performer" in today's games, then the G2030 can't be too far off. They're similar in performance, where the G3220 slightly outperforms the G2030. Generally however, they are as close as you can get to being similar in performance IMO.

At this point, I would recommend just choosing which is cheaper, as they provide similar performance. However I don't recommend that, as both processors use different sockets; therefore will not be compatible with the same motherboard. The G2030 requires socket 1155, whereas the G3220 requires the more recent 1150. You'll need to check which is compatible with your current motherboard.

If you're building a new computer, I'd go with the G3220 and a socket 1150 motherboard; as you can then upgrade your processor later to a 4th (current/latest) generation processor if you desire, dubbed Haswell. However the next generation of Intel processors may be released soon, so your motherboard may effectively be "outdated" by then; but that's no issue to be honest, it'll still be a heck of a computer and be pretty much up to time anyhow; the next generation won't make that much of an advancement over 4th gen IMO. 😉

Thanks I have an asrock h61 lga 1155 mobo so looks like I'll have to go with the G2030.
