I'm currently using a Dell Inspiron desktop with 4GB RAM, an AMD Athlon, and ATI Radeon HD 4200 (integrated) graphics, running Windows and Linux. The game I'm using for a baseline if Minecraft. Using this machine (under either OS), I get an acceptable framerate, but there's about a half-second delay between moving the mouse and something happening on the screen, making multiplayer impossible.
I'm planning on getting a Lenovo Ideapad Z580 with 8GB RAM, an Intel i7, and Intel HD 4000 (integrated) graphics. I'd like to know if I will have the same delay using this machine (under Linux). Almost any game seems to perform at least a little better (usually a lot better) under Linux, but Minecraft seems to run the same on both OSes. My current Inspiron desktop was around $400, so I obviously can't expect much from it, but if 4GB of RAM is supposedly enough for Crysis 3, and the processor is mostly irrelevant for games, the only remaining factor I can think of is the graphics.
