Solution
You need GT 630/640 or GT 730 to step up to the HD 4400 level. I would advise you to get him 8 GB of RAM. Since he is using CAD and integrated Video - those 4 GBs wont last for long.

I'd say even a 730/640 can be worth the money over integrated graphics, but the 610 is definitely not worth it. The 610 is designed to allow you to connect displays to computers whose CPU has no display system at all. It is not designed by any means as a gaming card. I'd stick with the HD 4400 and save for a better graphics card, but it might not be really necessary for basic CAD work, depending on what level it is at.

Yeah, but I partially misread :p Aside from the fact that a gaming level card will definitely have enough power for even the most complicated CAD models, but now I'm just making excuses :p

The point still stands that the 610 probably won't be much of an upgrade by any means. The only benefit is that it offloads some work off the CPU, so it might help the CPU maintain a lower temperature, but I doubt that will be a big difference.

It's pretty useless for anything other than a spare to use for troubleshooting.
