So Im playing my nice Battlefield 3 on my 32 inch screen on my i5 3570k and Intel HD Graphics 4000. This guy, he's almost dead. Wait... My display is gone! Then I noticed my computer is restarting... I thought I had a virus even though I am very very careful on what I download. But when my computer booted up, it did the Windows 8 (sadly I know, only OS key I have available.) Automatic Update. Ok... Right when it hit 30%, it says Windows failed to update. Reverting changes. I was a bit skeptical on this. Then my computer shut down. I booted it up. It says Windows failed to update AGAIN. Then it went on for about 3 more times. Then it finally stopped. Thank god :D. Now you may ask why is he posting this in the graphics cards section. Well here is why. This is the good part. I went to my desktop, tried to boot up BF3 again. It didnt work! I removed the drivers for my HD G4000. I tried BF3 again. It worked. But then, I noticed a drastic reduce in FPS from 45 to 5. I lowered all my graphics. Still no change in FPS. I went into console and typed "render.drawfps 1" which gives you an FPS meter. Still really low. Now. I shut off Battlefield 3. I went into the almighty game with bad graphics. (Hi Minecraft). So I went onto Minecraft. I went into my world. My FPS went from 175 to 5 again. I can't install drivers since everytime I install drivers, I cant boot any game up, such as Crysis 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2 or Assassins Creed 3. So. Any fix to this?

My specs:
Intel i5 3570k
Hyper 212 Plus
Corsair HX600 PSU
8gb Corsair XMS3 1600MHz RAM
Asus P8-Z77-V-LX Motherboard
Intel HD Graphics 4000
128gb SSD
320gb HDD x2

It sounds to me that windows update was trying to install graphics drivers, And so it uninstalled the older drivers and couldn't reinstall the new drivers. If you can get to the Asus website they have the graphics drivers there, My wife has basically the same set up as you and she got the latest chip set drivers and other software from there for her Windows 8 upgrade, She uses the HD4000 graphics, I am pretty sure Asus has them on the site.

Yea, I'm getting one for the wife too but its going to be a few months. She also has hers hooked to a 32 inch. Almost identical setup as yours.

You need a dedicated graphics card to play that game man do yourself a favor and invest in one :) you have all the fixing of a great computer but your computer is just mixing that element. A gtx660 would be a good option however I would go with a 660Ti, or 7870 as the best value with the games you are playing.

Do you know each other? And yes normally I would go with the ASUS solution because they are very cool and very very silent. ASUS doesn't ship reference cards they are that bad arsh! However I hear great things about overclocking with the power editions.
