Intel I3 6100 vs Intel I5 6400t?

Intel I3 6100 vs Intel I5 6400t? Im looking to build a new gamer pc so I was wondering which one is the best ( I will overclock them after, I know I could get in the i3 upto 4ghz but the i5 is clocked at 2.2ghz stock but I dont know how much it could get) The ram I will use it will be ddr4

Neither of those CPUs can be overclocked.

ASRock motherboards allowed you to OC non K processors, but Intel made them come out with a BIOS update that no longer allows you to.

I think ASRock came out with more mobos that can OC non K CPUs, but I imagine Intel is going to try to put a stop to it again.

I imagine it isn't terribly difficult to get the old BIOS from some of the overclocking forums.

This is an interesting subject though. The T chips clearly work quite well at low voltages and might be very stable when overclocked without needing excessive cooling.

I would probably take the i5 over the i3 just for the quad cores.

ASRock motherboards allowed you to OC non K processors, but Intel made them come out with a BIOS update that no longer allows you to.

It isn't just ASRock mobos that allowed you to overclock non-k CPUs. So did MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte. Not sure if the BIOSs that allow it are still posted on the products websites, but it shouldn't be too hard to find them somewhere online.

i5 is the clear winner between the two.

We cant give any more detailed info on which is better without knowing what games/programs you plan on using it for, @ what resolution, with what GPU.

Yeah, but even with turbo boost, that i5 is running 1 GHz slower than the i3, about 25% slower. I don't know if I'd say that i5 is a clear winner. Than being said, I'm not sure why the OP is looking at that CPU rather than a regular i5 6400.

more cheaper xD. Im looking to gaming, I dont have the best setup right now (old 8200 and 8gb ddr2, r9 270 gpu) so I was thinking to upgrade my cpu, motherboard and ram for now and then when I get more money get a newer gpu

Did you end up getting the 6400T? I'm curious to see how it OC's, can't find anything on it. I've heard that the 6400 and 6500 hitting 4ghz.

For those who ask about what I decided to buy, I got the i5 6400t and is running great since I posted the question (around that date I bought it). I managed to overclock it to 3.6ghz (I didnt want to get more because Im using a micro atx) with 8gb ram. Also, is running w10 without any problems

I would argue that once you've paid extra for these over a cheaper h110 board you could have just bought an i5 6500 anyway though.

Yeah, but that would cost around 400$ with ram, and this get up would cost 300$ with ram, found a good deal for the i5 6400t that's why. Thank you though for the fast reply.
