intel i5-3330 for gaming?

As everyone says, gaming is more about the GPU than the CPU. I really do not think it will bottleneck but if you are going for "extreme gaming" and I assume you mean video editing, I'm not sure why you wouldn't spend the extra 20$ and go with a Intel Core i5-3570. 3.4GHz base clock with a 3.8GHz Turbo Boost clock. 20$ more than that would get you the unlock version for overclocking but I think you would be satisfied with the 3570.

Like I said, I don't think you will have an issue with the 3330 but for 20$ you get better value with the 3570.

This is assuming that he has a motherboard that has a 1150 socket for the 4670k Haswell processor. The core that they are asking about is Ivy bridge.

I presume that "extreme gaming" will involve being able to play the latest titles at their maximum graphical settings? In that case, I'd back up cmichaels119, in that the GPU will be doing most of the work so that's where you should spend your money. I also agree that the i5 3570 will be a wiser purchase. Raw clock speed is better for gaming. If you're on a budget, you may consider a Core i3 3250 and using the saved cash to upgrade your GPU.

Gaming focuses on the GPU and video editing/productivity software on the CPU. Ideally, you want both of these and if you're on a budget, you need to ask yourself which is more important.
