always go for cpu with more cores. the ib cpu is only 10 percent or less slower then the newer haswell cpu. the ib cpu can be overclocked better... haswell cpu run hotter then ib.

i5 3330 has 4 cores vs i3's 2 cores. i5 is definitely better for gaming

Non-K CPUs are locked so overclocking is extremely limited, whether it's SB, IB, or Haswell.
What will make the difference here is what graphics card you pair with it. All else being the same, the i5 is the better choice, but if getting the i3 frees up money to get a better graphics card, in most games that would be the better choice. MMOs may be an exception, as they are often more CPU-bound.

I'm using a XFX hd 7770 graphics card

If you already have that card, then may as well get the i5. If that's a little pricey, in your place I'd probably choose a FX-6300 over an i3, as newer games are better-threaded.
