Intel i5 4460: High temperatures

Hi guys
I'm running a Intel i5 4460 with stock cooler and getting pretty high temperatures. Using the program real temp, on chrome i get roughly 40-45C, with occasional 50. However when trying out league (not playing full matches yet) the temps go to 80C ( i do not continue running the game as I do not want to risk damaging the CPU), which I'm pretty darn sure is too high.

PC is roughly 2 years old.
No graphics card
I've cleaned out any dust with compressed air today.
I have only 1 fan at the front at the moment which takes air in (case is Corsair spec-01), however i am getting a rear exhaust fan next Monday.
I have checked to see if the CPU cooler is seated correctly, by gently tugging on it and it does appears to be.

So am I right in thinking that I need to replace the thermal paste on my CPU? Really sorry if this is a waste of a thread. Thanks

Solution
Hey guys just an update, i got the thermal paste today, (Artic silver mx4 ). Additionally, upon taking the cooler of it was immediately apparent the thermal paste did not properly apply(not even half the cpu was covered!). Looking at my temps now i dont even exceed 50 in league, before i was hitting 80-90.

Hmm, the other threads i saw suggested it was not normal. And it does already seem quite hot for a not that intensive task.

it is normal with a crappy intel stock cooler

Unless the cooler has been dislodged, the thermal paste will last for more than 10 years. I still can't figure out why people believe that it has to be replaced on a regular basis; this isn't like an engine's oil that degrades over time.

GhislainG in theory your correct, but in my 30 years of dealing with personal computers, it just a fact after 4-6 years on average the people post about temperature cpu issues, and 99% of the time a clean and repasting of thermal compound solves the issue.

just saying.

I see, It did come with a pre-installed fan at the front, but not the back. There could be a possibility the cpu fan was dislodged.

I've already ordered the paste which should be on its way, hopefully it works. If not i'll go for a new cooler, do you know any other cheap but good coolers that arent as big as the 212?

Cool thanks, I'll pick a solution next week, to see if the thermal paste works.
Thanks everyone for your help!
