So I have a pre-built dell and before you say omg dont buy dells for upgrading.... I have a gtx 970 8gb of ram and a pretty bad i3 4130 and I want to upgrade to a i5 4460 would it be compatible because ive seen the same dells with the same cpu i5 4460 (dell inspiron 3847) and im looking to transplant the case and mobo once i get around 100 more dollars in around 1 - 4 months, so this is temporary till I get a new mobo case and os. ive had this build with the gtx 970 in it for almost 8 months and I feel like the i3 4130 is bottlenecking in alot of games like gta 5 fallout 4 and a few more, thanks!

Edit: Forgot to mention would a BIOS update be needed? and has anyone done something similar with the same or a different CPU thanks 😀

Sometimes a BIOS update is needed when swapping out compatible CPUs, depending on the OEM's motherboard requirements. Your best bet is to get on a Dell support forum and ask (giving your complete hardware info up front there of course like you did here).

I will say that I upgraded a 3-year old Dell laptop from an i3 to an i5 and it was just a simple chip swap and didn't require a BIOS flash.
