My question pertains to the age old Intel vs. AMD topic. I am attempting to decide between Intel 4570 and AMD FX-8320. My daily tasks consist of heavy programming and database management. Additionally, I want to begin gaming more frequently on my PC. What processor would you recommend? Intel 4570 at $150 and AMD at $130. Motherboards at $88 and $96, respectively. I know this question has been posted on forums before, but I suppose my question pertains more so to these 2 products at their associated price points. Please, no fanboys or bias.

talking about future, AMD has no plans for 2015 and Intel plans to release some good CPUs later..

Intel changes its chipsets frequently.. AMD doesn't..

DDR4 is on it's way..

There's a lot.. My sincere suggestion...
Go for AMD.. Intel 4570 (i5) has 4 core, 4 threads whereas the fx 8320 has 8 core/ 8 threads..

since you said that its more about heavy programming and database management, intel will do good.. but if you include photoshop and editing stuff like that, AMD will give you more price/performance value..

and for gaming, AMD all the way..

hmm, what do you think would be best for longevity? From what I understand, Intel changes their chipset fairly often. On the other hand, I've also read that AMD doesn't plan on developing anything in the AM3+ chipset in the near future, if ever. By longevity, I mean not having to motherboard and cpu for the next 4-5 years and still maintain a fairly decent computer towards the end of its life. I've been obsessing over this for the past week, so I apologize for asking you to predict the future, but I must know! lol

There's a lot.. My sincere suggestion will be to wait for a year and get the best available then..

OR

you could get an AMD.. I am using Phenom 965 and it gives a very good life, 5 years old and still running the latest games without a hitch.. and mind you, this is just a 4 threaded processor..

the FX 8xxx is 8 threaded, Intel is 4 threaded.. and it (AMD) will not fail you in the long term..
