I currently have an Intel Core i5-4590 for my gaming PC, i'm not much of an expert but I hear that the i5-4590 is rather outdated. What would be a recommended upgrade, with a reasonable price?
As long as you're already using an SSD to see the benefits from that speed. More often than not, people think that they need to upgrade the CPU, but it's usually because they are using a HDD instead of an SSD.

Nothing is outdated if it still works for you. You do not mention any problems in performance, just what you 'hear'. So why spend money?
This is honestly the best advice.
Yes your CPU is rather outdated in terms of model numbers, but in terms of processing power, if it is still working and not giving you any problems and you don't plan on doing a major overhaul to your system, then staying with what you have is the best bet.
If anything it would make more sense to start saving up now for your next PC so when you intend to do an upgrade to get you back to a more current gen build.
