Hi everybody,

Firstly, this is my first post here so i'm not sure i'm doing this exactly right, but I'll layout my dilemma here.

Quite a while ago I built my GF a computer with the following specs:

processor: i5 6400
mobo: Gigabyte H110M
psu: Corsair CX450M
ram: Ripsaw Gskill 8gb (2x 4gb)
gfx card: asus gtx 970

Anyways, for quite some time the computer worked flawlessly. We stopped gaming for quite a few months during a busy time in our lives - we have major ebbs and flows, and when I went to turn it back on last month all I got was the Motherboard periodically flashing the red "cpu" error light and the cpu fan would do 1 turn and then nothing. It will do this every 30 seconds or so if I leave it on -

To clarify: I push power on - the led CPU light flashes and at the same time the CPU fan does like a single spin, maybe 1/2 spin and then nothing at all. Is it really likely the i5 6400 randomly died during a 5 month period of non use? The computer was sitting in one spot that entire time not plugged in.

Any tips or help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Martin

As a general thing: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

The above contains the most common issues for POST issues. Certainly give the most applicable ones a try (especially the one stick of RAM suggestion).

I personally would wonder if the PSU is capable of powering the GTX 970 (I've seen the recommended minimum as being 500W) for a significant length of time, but I side with caution on the power issue.
