Which would you chose, knowing that the max ram for intel i7 4790k is 32GB(DDR3) and 64 GB (DDR4) for intel i5 6500; for gaming?

I was thinking on the benefits of having the possibility of aquiring more RAM, a newer processor and a newer RAM version, therefore it might be less needed to buy a new PC soon, but tue intel i7 4790k has double threads and noticeable higher clock speed.

Just a comparation between those 2 components, assuming the full cpu will be at the same prize and same quality components.

You wont need the extra threads on the i7 for gaming, so the i5 is plenty.
You wont need anywhere close to that much ram for gaming either, 8GB is enough and 16GB is very very generous.

Overall, you dont need to spend the extra on an i7 for gaming, and extra ram does not translate to gaming performance nor longevity.

That depends on the user. 16GB is a safe bet for the medium-long term for most people.

In my case, swapping was killing my Core2Duo with 8GB, 16GB was still not enough to completely eliminate it on my i5, so I ended up with 32GB.

Then, the best choice would be the i7? Better processor with a safe ammount of RAM? Or a more efficient processor with double of RAM in case of future expanding?

And yes, I do some rendering and heavy programs sometimes

I did a lot of research, and my build was the best performance per £ spent that I could get. (I already had the GPU from last year)
For rendering or video editing, an i7 will be about 30% faster than an i5. For most other applications, you won't be able to tell the difference
