Intel i5 7600 vs FX 8350?

Solution
No contest i5
- significantly better gaming performance
- significantly higher single to Quad thread
- nearly identical heavy multi-threading
- far lower energy consumption
- less heat
- much more recent motherboard technologies

That i5 does use ddr4 but I'd get the fx8350 (that i5 is no better than any older i5). With 8 cores it's going to last decades for general use. New games won't use DirectX11. They'll use 12 or Vulkan. For 12 6 cores/threads is the optimum number. For Vulkan it's 6 or 8.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOI9OpoihMw shows a game on the fx6300, Ashes of the Singularity, written for directx 12 compared with 11. It's much faster. (You can't make that same comparison for games that were written for dx11.) So 4 cores is not good for the future.

Intel processors will suffer from security flaws like Spectre https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NArwG6yaWJ8&feature=youtu.be
AMD's new processors could too so I'm sticking with their older processors like the FX.

This is terrible advice. The FX chips are not holding up well at all; they're getting destroyed by even the most basic Ryzen CPUs. Yes, the future is more cores, but the cores of the future -- and the present given that this architecture is ancient enough to mainly be of interest to paleontologists -- are a lot faster than the frozen-porridge FX cores.
