Intel i5 8600 vs Intel i5 9600

I notice i5 9600 will be quickly released soon, which one should i buy?

by looking at the general spec, unless there is some new feature from the 9xxx, i don't see anything difference between a 8650 and 9600, and its k variant.

likely they are very similar chip. like skylake and kabylake. get which ever is cheaper.

The 9600 is likely to only bring minimal performance increases if any. The faster clock will only make for slightly higher temperatures, as both chips are still rated at 65W.

The 9th Gen supposed be for Cannon Lake...but a delay happen again and again.

AFAIK, Cannonlake for desktop died several months ago. There are a few IGP-less low-end Cannonlake SKUs for embedded applications and nothing more on the radar. Coffee Lake Refresh is filling the 9000 series and all signs point to Icelake being the next mainstream architecture in 2019 assuming Intel manages to sort out its 10nm process in time. Things are going to get embarrassing for Intel if it ends up over one year behind AMD at sub-12nm.

Cannonlake looks like it will end up a lot like Broadwell: not shipping in any meaningful quantities to anyone besides a few specific OEMs.

If you can't deliver new CPUs on time, just call them 9000-series chips, leave them at 14nm+++++, bump the clock speed by 100-200 MHz, and declare success!

So if their 10nm production gets delay again, it will be 14nm++++++?

AMD hasn't owned any fabs in about a decade and divested itself of most of its remaining stake in GloFo back in 2012 to keep the company afloat. It only has the [NULL]nm and [N/A]nm processes.

IIRC, GloFo is getting its 7nm process from a partnership with Samsung and the rest of AMD's chips are usually manufactured by TSMC.

Even if AMD ahead of the "nm" process still does cant be Intel 8th Gen...why is that?

I know AMD mostly focused on making their Processors and Graphics affordable

Well, supposedly they will be using some refined process and who knows maybe spectre fixes in hardware. But probably it will anyway be extremely close to all 8XXX processors - it's pretty much same architecture and almost same process, just more boost clock, which is a great news for guys who buy non-K CPUs.

It'd be different if said 9x00 was shipping next week or so, but, I doubt a 100-200 MHz jump in base/turbo clocks is going to be a night and day improvement in most gaming scenarios anyway...

Any fixes will probably still be in microcode. It's my understanding that the required fixes to the cache and HT are quite extensive and will likely require a partial core redesign.
