intel i5 with 16Gb of ram

i'm working at fl studio (music composer) but im getting lots of lag due to low performance of my laptop and my processor is intel core i5-6200U with DDR3 8GB ram and i want to increase the ram to 16gb by add more 8 gb of ram, is this a good idea? would the processor run the 16GB of ram efficiently ?

Start your typically usage in fl studio, open task manager (where the ram usage is), and post screenshot or report. (Like, its using 6GBs out of 8GBs)

You can also check CPU usage in task manager, in the 'performance' tab, just to make sure your CPU isn't maxed out when working on your projects.
