Intel i7-3770k Or newer?

I have an unused Intel i7-3770k that I have laying around - I am looking at building a new gaming rig due to mine being about 5 years old. I am currently running on an i5-2500k.

My question is, should I look at building a system with the i7-3770k or try to sell it and get something newer? I was looking for performance motherboards to go with it and they seem to be a bit pricey. (around 300-400 just for a Asus Maximus V Gene)

Boards for the 3770K are very rare and price is way out of line , go Skylake 1151.

Can't you just use your current mobo? 3770k and 2500k use the same socket.

The motherboard I currently have is a ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3
I run dual GeForce GTX 560Ti's

The system as stated is a bit old, and I would like to move up to something more substantial. I was also looking at moving to a Mini ITX build with a single GPU. I have also been experiencing issue with the USB on the motherboard and a new one on Amazon is showing upwards of 500.00 dollars.
