Hello

I recently installed a new i7 4790K on a Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3. Water cooler is a H60. 16gb ddr ram and gtx970. Core was installed with articsilver5. Bios and drivers are up to date. I live in Chicago, Pc is in my basement and its December....brrrrr....

Monitoring via CPU-Z, CPUID HWMonitor, and Open Hardware Monitor.

I boot PC and let idle. Temperature is at 51C. I can load a few tabs on google chrome and It will run at 68C for 4 cores. I then close Chrome and load up Starcraft2. All 4 cores hit 100c and will stay up there. CPU is not at 100% load either. Game play seems sluggish once the game is a a tad more demanding. I feel like the CPU is throttling.. My old i3 that was OC'd to 3.8ghz seemed to run better under 100% load (51c in the same environment). Running Prime95 on the new PC will also make the cores jump to 100c but GPU and HDD temps are right on par at 32c.

I dont have the CPU overclocked. And all other bios options are left on default. I saw on some previous threads they talked about setting the power options in windows to high performance to set the core speed, so that it doesnt bounce around so much..but that didnt seem to do anything.

Should I NOT use the stock bios settings? Any suggestions would be appreciated. If all else fails, Ill just try remounting the CPU cooler.

Thank you,

I just removed the sink and re-applied a small amount of thermal paste. I have starcraft open in the back ground as I type, and I am still at a solid 98 on all 4 cores. Is the h60 not good enough for the 4790K?

The water cooler fan spins. Just dont know how to check if the pump is actually working. The power cables are all seated well. So i figure it is working.

In my bios, I needed to turn the CPU fan speed to "Full speed". I did not realize this, as this is my first water cooler installation.

I am running starcraft on the highest settings, have 10 tabs on chrome, and watching a video now all at a breezy 32C on all cores. WOOHOO! Now I feel comfortable with cranking this thing up.

Thank you for your help!
