Question Intel i7 4790k overheating?

So recently i bought 4790k and i noticed right away that is overheating with 50 degrees on idel at desktop,it peeks 95 on aida64 and its 60 degrees in games (warzone),cpu is not overclocked, note that it doesn't throttle at all on stock with this temps. I immediately turned it off and checked the cooler and try to rotate it,and fitment but it was same again. The same cooler (lc power cosmo cool lc-cc-120) was on my FX8350 before and it was 25 degrees desktop and maxed 50 degrees overclocked. So is this normal or should i try new cooler or something else could be the problem? Thanks.

Possibly the thermal paste under the IHS is bad. You might need to delid to fix it. Those temps are ok though. Except for the Aida64 one. I'd sell the system. Part it out and sell it. And get a new Ryzen 3000 based system.

I'll try deliding first since i just got it, it could be it bcs it wasn't used in 3 years this i7.

Check the mounting and check the paste before delidding. I've used 4790ks for years and

1. They run hot
2. Sensitive to voltages (stock you want at most 1.3v
3. Need good cooler contact.

Check your cooler for possible things that would stop heat transfer. A delid is NOT needed.

Its stock in every setting, voltage is 1.147V so should i bump it up a little?Ive checked the contact and it is good,paste too. Cinnebench crashes into a bsod with 102 celsius on first 2 cores, other ones are 90ish. Its on asus maximus 7 ranger, but im not familiar with intel overclocking and stuff since this is my first intel processor and they work differently than FX...

I have the same problem with the i7 4790K. Idle temp 55 to 60 maxing in the late 80s sometimes 90s. Fans are like roaring jet engines, all the time. I've upgrades the cpu fan and added a case fan without any change. I came across this thread while looking for an i5 4690 to replace the i7 4790K as I have an i5 4690 in another machine and you wouldn't know it's running. The i5 idle temps are low 40s maxing around the 60s. The i7 4790K is way OTT for what I need . I don't game and I don't OC (knowingly).
One issue I find monitoring the i7 4790K (via CPUID HWMonitor) is the i7 4790K never drops below 4000MHz maxing-out slightly above that. As I'm not an OCer I don't know if the machine is OCed and I can't find out how to reduce the CPU speeds. I'd be happy to run this chip at a much lower lower power output but I'm not that tech savy, hence, opting to switch to an i5 4690.
So if you do get a solution I would be very keen to learn what that is. Good luck and please keep us posted

Did you try both i5 and i7 on the same mb and cpu fan?

I havent swapped the cpus between machines but they are identical ITX builds. The only difference might be the brand of 16GB RAM. Also, now, the i7 build has a non-stock fan. It's a Noctua

Yesterday i was switching coolers and mounting them in both ways. I downloaded a game(repack) it hit 99 degrees and shutdown.... I found many videos on this topic and the only solution is to delid so im doing it, just need to find what type of silicon or glue to seal it with

So i finally delided it!!! The paste was rock solid underneath the ihs. Rock solid! So i put some MX4 on it and boom. Idle is 30 degrees (50 before) gaming is never over 60, only benchmarks can push it to 75max. Be carefull if you do it. I just heated it up with a hair dryer and opened it with some mobile screen repair tools, good quality ones tho, and its not that hard at all just be carefully with the little mosfets beneath.

Thats awesome man! I just recently bought a mobo from a friend to overclock the 4790k since it does everything well figured id get a couple more years before i upgrade to a new platform. However, I did some base overclocks and my temps are crazy just like yours.

Im using the h100i v2

Pump is set to extreme
Fans are set to extreme
Coolant temp is 33-35c

Ambient temp is 24-26c
4790k Idle is 35-40c

Base OC min voltages that lets me boot into windows so i can test temps:
4.6ghz - 1.18v
4.8ghz - 1.27v

Stress tests: Realbench, Prime95, intel burn test, cpu-z (just to see the temps against other stress tests)

I hit start temp spikes to 90-100c instantly.. lol I don't get it.
Cpu-z stress test temp was about 86c..

I might delid mine as well and use arctic silver 5 for a few days until I order liquid metal. Hope it helps at least some.

So I delid it and used arctic silver 5 for now have to wait for liquid metal to come in but the delid made a huge difference!

I hit max 72-75 in prime95 now where before it was instant 100.
In cpuz stress test my temps are in the 60s
Intel burn test i was at about 80c

Really excited for the liquid metal. Oh and i lost one capacitor when i delid the cpu

Man, sounds like a delild to me, dont want to encourage you but... Its similar like mine. 40/50 degree idle and 90 degree on stress test. The paste was rock solid underneath, now its all good. Be carefull when deliding, little capacitors are just on the left side of the chip so watch out, other than that everThing is easy.
