So i didnt really know where to categorize this so i just put it under cpu since that is mainly what i need help with.

So i just finished building my new pc and here are my specs:

mobo: MSI z97 Gaming 7
CPU: Intel i7 4790K
PSU: Corsair GS 800
RAM: 8GB Hyperx Savage DDR3 2400mhz
GPU: MSI R9 290x 4GB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

so my question is im using Sony Vegas Pro 13 to render videos for youtube. My first attempt at rendering i was pumped i rendered a 17 minute video in 1 minute 50 seconds. But now im trying to render a video, of the same game and same render settings just a 40 minute video and its going to take around 5 hours. So im not a pro at understanding what makes a render take longer but i feel like it should take that long for this video to render, but the longer video i did cut up and edit, the 15 minute video was just a straight 15 minute video with out any editing. Any way the only reason i spent extra cash to get the 4790k was to get better render times.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated thank you in advanced.

okay i was wondering if that could be a factor. i plan on getting more ram soon!

Did your settings change? Is it rendering at the same framerate or a higher one, a higher frame rate will do that (more data). Also might depend on the details of the rendering, how much of it is being done by the cpu and how much by the gpu. Gpu rendering is faster, but I don't think the whole video can be done in gpu only portions of it. You mentioned you cut it up, I'm wondering if certain tasks are now being offloaded to the cpu (slower) where the previous video was strictly gpu processed (and faster). More ram will probably help but it might be worth checking out some forums specific to vegas rendering since those folks work with it a lot. The good news is, you have an amd gpu which vegas is more geared toward (as opposed to nvidia).

so im rendering in the main concept mp4 and from what im finding in a sony forum is that i should use the sony preset one instead. So im going to give that a try and see what happens.

I'm like geofelt, no rendering expert. From browsing through forums I know there are different rendering engines I guess they are, like you said there's main concept and others. Not really sure what the differences are between them. Looking forward to the results, hopefully you post back and let us know what happens with the different preset setting. Good luck.
