I am currently buying a new motherboard and I am buying a new processor aswell and I can't decide wich one should I buy because the price difference is about 50-60$ and I don't see much difference between theese two, except 6700k has higher core speed. I am using my pc for 4k gaming with my EVGA GTX980Ti SC and I really like to max out settings on every game. So I don't know wich one should I buy. I am not going to OC it. Wich one should I get?

Solution

You can save some bucks by opting for the i7 6700 because it will eliminate the need for procuring a comparatively more expensive Z170 motherboard and possibly better cooling options. You might have noticed, that the i7 6700k is effectively the unlocked version of the i7 6700. Max turbo...
The i7 6700 is a MUCH cheaper option overall. You could pair it with a medium priced H170 motherboard and use it's stock cooler. The i7 6700k does not come with a stock cooler, and can only be overclocked on the more expensive z170 motherboards.

Budget is not a problem, I just want to see wich is more worth for money and wich performs better for gaming, I am not attending to overclock it and I was thinking of buying z170 motherboard, cooler is also not a problem because I am thinking of getting a water cooler.

If budget is not a problem, go for a 6700k and Cryorig H7.
If you want the best bang for buck for gaming, that would be the i3 6100 😉

It's usually best to just include your entire budget for the whole system and go from there. The i7s may be a terrible choice for you. If all you're doing is gaming, there is no reason not to get an i5. The video card is the most important part.

That's why I am asking you guys here, so I don't waste money for anything, I basically have everything stock and looking to get a new CPU,RAM and Motherboard for best performance for price. I am not overclocking anything because I never had any expirience with OC.

Like i said, best perf/price is the i3 6100, so it's not that simple. If you can get the 6700k, get it, even with a normal non-z170 MB.

Max turbo frequency of 4 GHz sounds cool to me and there is no point in paying more for the 4.2 GHz offered by the i7 6400k if you do not wish to overclock (well the scene changes dramatically if you'd oveclock as that 4.2 GHz is going to sky rocket significantly).

So, if I were in your shoes, I would have definitely bought the i7 6700 and spend whatever money I have saved on buying some beers and getting drunk. Hic!!😀

Solution

Exactly!! Why would you go for a Z170 and water coolers if you do not wish to overclock? The i7 6700k will simply bottleneck both.:??:

Ok, let me make this clear, you do not need to get an expensive MB to run a 6700K, you only need one if you also want to overclock it. You would, however, need a cooler.
Also, the boost frequency is actually applicable only when only one core is getting utilized heavily. When fully usning the whole CPU, the base clock is way more relevant.

EDIT: I guess i'm just wasting my time here :)))

i have 6700 and i can tell that play as good games ultra max setings 😛
