Intel i7 8700k vs AMD Ryzen 7 2700x

I see the difference, it goes up to 5.2 ghz with 8700k but 4.35 ghz with 2700x. Is it really worth the price to pay extra for that 0.85 ghz? Does that little number matter in gaming and streaming with many chromes on?

I've been thinking about this for 3 days already, can't get over it and now stuck on deciding which to buy.. I need help, I want to let go my frustration over this.

Solution
Don't count on getting a 8700k to 5.2. That is a very aggressive overclock and the CPU will need to have very good cooling and probably be delided to run at that frequency.

What are you using the CPU for? If it is for productivity, the extra cores and threads of the 2700x will perform better than the 8700k for multi core processes despite the frequency difference.

If this is for gaming, the 8700k does have the edge, but the 2700x is not far off by much (5-10%).

For me, I don't think the extra cost justifies the price of the 8700k. The 2700x is just too good of a value. It leads in workstation task and is just barely behind in gaming. I say this as a 8700k owner, I would go with the 2700x.

If you want the best performance...

1080p 60hz

I just noticed that new i9's are coming out, what about AMD side?

If you want the best performance regardless of cost, the 9900k should be released very soon and it will beat the 2700x in work station task, but it will also cost significantly more.

Solution
What kind of motherboard do you suggest for 2700x for overclocking?

*I don't mind if it's RGB, would like to see non MSI and ASRock product*

and do you think Cooler Master 212 Evo or LED version will do the cooling job?

I didn't get what you mean, either you're saying " don't waste money on these two cpu's " or " these two will perform same on 1080p /60hz gaming". Which one was it ?

Ah I see, actually they are selling 2700x and 2600x about similar price. That's why I want to go for 2700x, just few dollar difference. Maybe in the future, I'll be on 2k with 144hz gaming *maybe* 😀

The 212 evo won't really be any better than the stock cooler that the 2700x comes with.
If you really want to push the cpu then get something like a +240mm AIO or a Noctua NH-D15.

As for motherboard, my go to choice for maximum overclocks would always be ASRock Taichi but since you ruled ASRock out and probably want something bit more affordable i'd say Gigabyte X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING

One big question, I just got message "Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Pinnacle Ridge CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." After picking Asus B350 - PLUS. Does it matter?

Yes it does, if the motherboards BIOS has not been updated to support 2000 series cpus then it won't boot.

I used to like MSI but after experiencing buggy apps, I never want to go back to MSI again. Any other recommendations besides ASROCK and MSI?

Go with what you like. To me, when it comes to motherboards with similar features, I go with the bios that I am most familiar with. Gigabyte and Asus both make good mobos.

16gb of RAM is considered the optimal amount by todays standards.
1080 vs 1070 ti: https://youtu.be/2rvmryGAr78
Both are on average around 70-90% faster than the 1060 3gb.

Ryzen 2700x overclocked vs the Intel 8700k overclocked will still result in one being better than the other at different things.
Ryzen 2700x is and will always be better at rendering, streaming, multitasking due to its many cores and threads.
Intel 8700K will always be better at gaming since it has less cores but they are more powerful.
I assume you play League of Legends due to your username, get the 8700K, it will perform much better since League only uses 2 cores MAX. You won't need Ryzens 2 extra cores or threads for League. Also check youtube stats on Ryzen CPUs, they are awful for easy to run games such as CSGO, LOL, DOTA, and TF2.
But at the end of the day, you won't go wrong with either one. They are both excellent CPUs. Pick based on what you do more.
